#MetLifeTakeover Wrap Up & Pictures!

Monday, December 2nd, 2013

Yesterday was one of the best days of my life and I have a feeling that another 750 or so people feel the exact same way after the amazing day we had yesterday at the Meadowlands. We rolled very deep taking four busses of fans from Slattery’s Midtown Pub to MetLife Stadium where a ton more Dolphins fans joined us. As a group we bought 760 tickets but there were a lot more at the game and I feel like most of them came to our tailgate!

The tailgate was catered for the first 300 people who signed up but a bunch of people brought their own food and set up around us. We also had beer and rum provided by PBR and Sailor Jerry and I can’t thank them enough for sponsoring our tailgate free of charge. The tailgate featured some Dolfan guests when team CEO Tom Garfinkle and Nat Moore showed up and posed for pictures with fans. While it wasn’t quite the Fergie appearance from last year Sun-Sentinel reporter Omar Kelly showed up and he was voted one of South Florida’s sexiest TV newsmen. (I actually had to google “Omar Kelly sexiest” to find that link. I hope the NSA isn’t judging me.) We also had a pretty awesome performance from Miami Dolfan Music’s own Solo D who recorded a #MetLifeTakeover song for the occasion. The Dolphins sent us a MASSIVE flag that we broke out at the tailgate. I had to climb on top of an RV to get pictures! I was also told Brent Grimes’ hilarious wife Miko showed up to the tailgate late but I missed her.

I was running around like a chicken with my head cut off so I barely had time to talk to anyone for more than a minute, but it was really amazing to meet all the Dolphins fans who came from all over the northeast for the game. The York PA Dolphins Fan Club and the Northern VA/DC club made group trips up and I hope it becomes a tradition. I love meeting fan clubs from all over and Michelle and I really want to do what we can to help grow these clubs around the country. Dolfans NYC has been successful partly because there are more than 10 million people living within an hour of us but I also think some of our marketing efforts have worked pretty well and I hope we can help other clubs do similar events at other Dolphins away games.

The game itself was of course amazing and our sections were ROCKING! We gave out 750 rally towels at the tailgate and they were in full force throughout the game. Marv Albert mentioned how loud we were on the TV broadcast after Brian Hartline scored a TD and pointed to our section with the ball. You could hear our LET’S GO DOLPHINS and DEFENSE chants in the background on the telecast but our Seven Nation Army chants were really audible in the fourth quarter. The Jets made a huge mistake by playing the song before a Dolphins third down and we kept coming back to it after that. It was pretty hilarious to use that against them.

Aside from the camaraderie and the huge win it was awesome to feel like what you were doing made a difference on the field. I think we all felt like we were making a difference in the game and giving our team energy and I don’t think we were alone in that. A ton of Dolphins Tweeted thank you messages to the crowd including several of them mentioning Dolfans NYC by name. We should have a list of all those Tweets on the blog tomorrow or whenever Alex gets a chance to do the post.

So check out all the photos I shot at the tailgate below and both MiamiDolphins.com and our crack team of video reporters were on hand so there should be some pretty cool videos coming soon! I also will be posting these pictures to our Facebook group so tag yourselves in them! Phins up!

Brandon Fields: We Hear You

Wednesday, November 27th, 2013

199 DolfansNYC members piled into MetLife Stadium on Oct. 28, 2012 and cheered, chanted and sang the team’s fight song as the Dolphins cruised to a 30-9 victory over the Jets.

The group’s spirited celebration was not only heard by dejected home fans throughout the stadium and clearly audible during the television broadcast, but left a lasting impression on Dolphins players.

Dolphins punter Brandon Fields (left) and long snapper John Denney address fans at Web Weekend on Oct. 19.

“Oh, yeah!” said Miami punter Brandon Fields with a smile when I asked him about hearing Dolphins fans in the stands at N.J.

“When we’re up there, we usually have a pretty good presence – especially when we’re winning, doing well up there, you can definitely hear them, definitely getting loud. It’s something that (we), as players, love hearing.”

Fields grew even more excited when I told him that he and his teammates would hear over 550 DolfansNYC fans on Dec. 1 – a record for largest fan group to ever invade MetLife, and a number that has since grown to a staggering 760.

“It means a lot,” said No. 2. “It’s amazing when you go to an opposing team’s stadium and you see your own fans getting loud, cheering for you (and) rooting the team on. You draw energy from that, and the fact that you quiet their fans down.”

Come Sunday, Jets players and fans alike won’t know what hit them.

2013 #MetLifeTakeover!

Monday, November 25th, 2013

This is it! It’s finally here! Jets week! All the ups and (mostly) downs of this insane season no longer matter. All that matters is partying with 760 Dolphins fans! That’s right, we bought 760 tickets to the Jets/ Dolphins game (All in sections 323 and 322!) and we are going to ruin some Jets fans whole week. Last year the Dolphins crushed them and you could hear us loud and clear on TV in the 4th quarter and we only had 200 tickets then. Imagine what we will sound like with nearly 4 times as many. Between the game and the tailgate, this is going to be a party. For those of you going with us you got most of this in your emails from us, but here is a run down of all the important information!

  • If you can’t find someone in our group to do business with, Stub Hub and NFL Ticket exchange have a bunch of seats left in section 322. We have hundreds of tickets in that section so you will not be out numbered. The tickets are pretty expensive though so try our Facebook page first.
  • We will be throwing the most massive tailgate you have ever seen in Lot L. If you want to park near us you need a YELLOW parking pass. Our four busses will roll up at 9:15am and we will be there until noon. We sold out of passes to our tailgate so if you don’t have one you can’t eat our food BUT tons of people will be tailgating around us so just BYOB/BYOF and I am 100% sure that someone will grill your food up for you. If you haven’t done one of these before everyone is super friendly!
  • We bought 750 orange rally towels, so if you are sitting in 323 or 322 come and get one from us at the tailgate. They are totally free. Our thanks for joining up with us. That being said we raise a lot of money for charity so if you guys want to donate a couple bucks we won’t turn it down.
  • Speaking of raising money for charity, we will have Dolfans NYC shirts, hats and (a few) beanies for sale at the tailgate. Shirts are $20 and hats/beanies are $25 but you can get a shirt and a hat/beanie for $40. Cash only. All the money goes into the Dolfans NYC fund of which 100% goes to Dolfans NYC activities and charity. We have donated nearly $10,000 to charity since the last #MetLifeTakeover. Thanks!
  • We want to make a LOT of noise at the game. If you haven’t been to our bar before (Slattery’s Midtown Pub) I lead everyone in singing the fight song, signaling first down and always J E T S SUCK SUCK SUCK chants. I am in the middle of section but 323 right next to 322. So look for me and let’s get our yelling organized! I want to hear us on TV and ruin all the Jets fans day. This is a great way to get some POSITIVE attention for the Dolphins for once.
  • The name of this event is “#MetLifeTakeover”. That hashtag blew up organically last year and I want to get that going again. Maybe we can get it trending locally at least. So if you Tweet or Instagram from the event please use that hashtag. Also please @ us. We are @DolfansNYC on both Twitter & Instagram.
  • Lastly, if you haven’t been to an NFL game this year don’t for get about the NFL’s moronic clear bag policy. You can only bring in clear bags under 12″x 12″ in size. They recommend a 1 gallon freezer bag or of course you can buy a Dolphins branded bag too. Amazon has a bunch. We will have some extra freezer bags at the game incase anyone forgets.

So I think that’s it! Here is a video we shot last year at the tailgate. Imagine this times four! Alex Bente and crew will be back at our tailgate again so look for him and his video crew! Phins up!

Ready For The 2013 #MetLifeTakeover?

Wednesday, June 12th, 2013

It’s time to start our planning for the Dolphins @ Jets game on December 1st. The sooner we get our ticket requests in, the better our chances of getting everyone together in the same section.

Right now we have several rows, all together, available to us in one of the 300 level endzone sections.

There are over 300 seats available right now and it would be AMAZING to fill all of them and really paint that section aqua and orange!!

GREAT NEWS – This year’s ticket is cheaper than last year’s! This year the tickets cost $65 each.

In addition, since everyone loved the buses that we reserved last year, we will be offering that option again, as well as organizing a HUGE tailgate. The cost of the bus and tailgate will be $35 per person.

SO….for $100 you get round trip bus transportation from Third & Long (Update: unfortunately due to Third & Long losing their lease we will be leaving from Slattery’s Midtown Pub, our new home.) to the stadium, food, beer, soda & water at the tailgate and a ticket to the game to sit with an entire section of Dolphins fans. Sounds pretty awesome to us!!

(If you only want a ticket to the game and NOT the bus/tailgate, that’s totally fine, just let us know. We also will be making the tailgate available by itself if you want to join without taking the bus.)

Here’s what we need to know from you….

1.)   Please EMAIL US at dolfansnyc@gmail.com and let us know how many tickets you would want – please ONLY email us if you are 100% certain that you want these tickets and can pay as soon as the payment is due to the ticket office. Michelle has to put down her credit card and it’s a huge risk to pre-pay for a ticket request that ends up getting cancelled. So please be certain before requesting your tickets.

2.)    Let us know if you want to be included on the list for bus transportation/tailgate. Pick up will be at Third and Long the morning of the game.

Once we have all of our requests in, we will coordinate with the ticket office to reserve the seats and get back to you regarding payment info.

Here’s a look back at last year’s amazing tailgate:

Thanks and FINS UP!

DolfansNYC MetLife Takeover Video

Sunday, November 18th, 2012

Let’s go back to a simpler time where everything was right in Dolphins land. Where our Phins were up and we had won every game in October. It was a time before hurricane Sandy and before the Dolphins lost three games in a row. Let’s go back to our massive tailgate at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey where we brought hundreds of Dolphins fans together for the most fun you could possibly imagine as a Dolphins fan without them winning the Super Bowl. The tailgate was a blast, the Steve Ross showed up with Mike Dee, Fergie and Nat Moore and then the Dolphins absolutely demolished the Jets leaving hundreds of Dolfans NYC members chanting in the endzone. You could hear us on TV and Mike Dee and Reggie Bush tweeted about how we helped them win the game. It was incredible.

Well ignore everything that has happened since then and check out this video from the tailgate hosted and edited by one of Michelle’s co-workers at Showtime, Alex Bente. It’s a great video and I think you should watch it all the way to the end. There are some surprises. Enjoy the video and let’s hope things get better before the end of the year. I can’t take much more of this! Go Dolphins!

MetLife Takeover

Monday, October 29th, 2012

The DolfansNYC tailgate and takeover was the most successful thing we have ever done as a club. We bought 200 tickets, rolled up to the stadium in two packed busses and were pretty much the only fans left at the end of the game. It was amazing. There had to have been more than 300 fans at the tailgate and we sold out of EVERY Dolfans NYC t-shirt and raised a bunch of money for charity. We plan on donating $1500 to the Miami Dolphins Foundation when Michelle and I head down to Miami for the Titans game in two weeks. Really great experience.

If you somehow missed the news we had a few special guests at the tailgate… Dolphins owner Stephen Ross showed up with minority owner Fergie of the Black Eyed Peas, CEO Mike Dee, Phins great Nat Moore, MiamiDolphins.com Andy Kent and a ton of cheerleaders. It was so cool of them to do that and a pretty good PR move. Some Jets fan hit Mr. Ross with a cheeseburger knocking his glasses off. Luckily they fell right at my feet and as soon as Ross got his glasses back on he just ignored the whole thing and kept posing for pictures and signing autographs. One of our members asked him why he came down and he said “I could have stayed in my box all game but I had to check out the tailgate. This is the biggest Dolphins fan club in the United States!” Very cool.

After the tailgate we filled the stands. We may have been in the endzone in the nosebleeds but I assure you our presence was felt. Mike Dee tweeted after the game “Great to head home w/a win. Complete team effort w/ an assist from DolfansNYC, who kept the Fins chants going all game long!” Reggie Bush didn’t mention us by name but he Tweeted “Loved the Dolphins fans showing up today! We heard you guys loud and clear and so did the rest of the stadium! Thanks for your support.” Not to brag or anything (okay maybe a little) I was leading the chants from the endzone. By the end of the game all the Jets fans were gone and the Dolphins fans left seemed to flood into our sections and we chanted “LET’S GO DOLPHINS” so loudly you could hear it on TV. It was one of the best experiences of my life. What a great day.

I want to thank everybody who came out, and especially want to thank my partner Michelle who did all the dirty work on this one. I am pretty good at doing the promoting and doing the screaming but Michelle is the best party planner you could imagine and put all 199 tickets we bought on her credit card. We have worked on this for months, but she busted her ass all week on the details while I was off hanging out with my girlfriend in California. So thanks Michelle, thanks to Sailor Jerry rum for sponsoring the tailgate, thanks to Third & Long for hosting a breakfast before we got on the buses, thanks to everyone who joined us at the game and thanks to the Miami Dolphins organization for not just recognizing us but supporting us.

All the pictures I took at the tailgate are below. If you want to save one just double click it or you can just go directly to our Flickr page to see and save all the pictures there.

Go Dolphins!

Dolfans NYC At The Meadowlands – All The Info You Need!

Monday, October 22nd, 2012

Everybody all over the Miami Dolphins world is talking about Dolfans NYC this week. As many of you know we bought 199 tickets to the Jets Dolphins game on the 28th as a group and then TONS more of our members bought tickets in sections 323 and 322. Those sections might be in the nosebleeds but they will be bleeding Aqua and Orange. All our tickets are gone and the two buses we are taking to the stadium are completely full but it’s not too late to hang out with us at Met Life Stadium.

DolfansNYC @ The Meadowlands

If you DON’T have tickets: Try NFL Ticket Exchange or Stub Hub and try to get seats in 323 and 322. Our rows are in the high teens so if you an find anything in the middle of the section you will be surrounded by Phins fans.

If you DO have tickets and just want to tailgate with us we are rolling in two buses at 10AM and will be parking in the charter bus lot in Lot L. If you look at  this map we will be in the little blue rectangle in lot L. We have several members that are going to get there the second the gates open and hold a spot down. Our buddy from the Ohio Dolfans club will be bringing with him his 28 foot flag pole so you should be able to find us pretty easily.

If you are tailgating with us we sugest you bring your own food and drinks. We are providing food and drinks for the people who have already paid us and who are riding the bus with us and will probably have some stuff left over but we don’t want to run out so bring something! If you have a grill and tailgating stuff bring it! The 200+ Phins fans we are rolling with will appreciate it. We are going to have a few grils but the more stuff the better!

The fun stuff: We have a bunch of fun stuff going on at the tailgate aside from food, drinks and antagonizing Jets fans. We are going to be raffling a bunch of Dolphins autographs and other stuff at the tailgate. The Dolphins actually sent us some cool stuff to raffle plus we have a bunch of our own stuff. All the money raised will be donated to the Miami Dolphins Foundation and possibly a couple other charities. The raffle will be held at noon at the buses. We also will have Dolfans NYC t-shirts there as well with profits going to charity as well. We also are going to be video taping and photographing the event so don’t be surprised if you end up all over the Miami Dolphins fan sites. We are doing a huge group picture at 12:15pm so meet us there for it! Solo D will be joining us at the tailgate, so you might end up in a rap video as well…

More information: If you still have questions reach out to us at dolfansnyc@gmail.com or @doflansnyc on Twitter. You can also talk to us and more NYC Phins fans over on our Facebook page. We will be updating our Facebook and Twitter with our EXACT location as soon as we get to the Meadowlands so check one of them when you roll into the stadium gates.

So that’s all I have for you. It has been an honor to run Dolfans NYC and I know Michelle feels the same way. She has been busting her ass organizing all of this and we couldn’t be more excited. As you know we give all the money we make to charity because we do this for the love. And not just for the love of the Dolphins but for the love of the Dolphins fan. It’s been so amazing to meet so many people who love the Dolphins as passionately as we do and this Jets trip every year is the most fun thing we do. Win or lose (we are going to win of course) it’s amazing to be there with so many Phins fans and this is going to be our biggest crowd yet. I am going to leave you with two videos. The first is a video from our first Dolfans NYC tailgate with only 30 of us. Just imagine what 200 is going to look like. The second video is Solo D’s new song about the Phins/Jets game this week. He reps our bar Third & Long and shouts out Dolfans NYC. He came with us last year and knows how much fun it is to party with Dolfans NYC.

See you guys soon. Go Dolphins!

We Want Bush!

Friday, September 21st, 2012

With our legitimate reporter Alex moving to California I recently reached out to Dolfans NYC member Ross Barnes who often posts mini opinion pieces on our Facebook group to see if he wanted to start writing for DolfansNYC.com. He was excited for the opportunity so enjoy the first article by Dolfans NYC’s own British ex-patriot Ross Barnes.

Reggie BushTo echo the sentiments that followed Reggie Bush’s exploits in last Sunday’s game, I want Bush! As I look down the Dolphins schedule I can see many winnable games, and for a team that many pundits had written off at the start of the season (I myself was/am reticent to get too excited just yet) there is a lot of promise on the horizon for this team. However, I do not believe that promise will translate into success without the continued play of Reggie Bush as he is currently performing. The Dolphins in 2012 are a far outside bet right now, but don’t write them off just yet. This team is a dark horse in the race and, if nothing else, we could play spoiler to a few other teams. The worst thing an opponent could do right now is underestimate what this unit is capable of, and to some extent the pressure will be on them, not us. But Bush will be key to our success.

In Week 1, Tannehill made some costly mistakes. He turned the ball over three times, twice of which came off of tipped balls at the line of scrimmage where Houston’s big defensive linemen were able to read and anticipate Tannehill’s throws as he stared down his receivers. In Week 2, Tannehill did not make these same mistakes. Sure, the Oakland Raiders are not on the same level as opponents like the Texans, but this is the kind of progression that is encouraging to see nonetheless – now we look to consistency. Tannehill was able to score on a run, this is something that we need to see more of him doing. One of the key factors of his game that did draw praise was his athleticism, his ability to get out of the pocket, extend the play and to bust open huge gains scrambling.
It is also important to note how many touches Reggie Bush got against the Raiders – in fact, the entire running game for that matter was more involved and, in doing so, Tannehill was not asked to do too much. Bush saw 14 carries against the Texans; the number almost doubled last week as he was handed the ball 26 times. Lamar Millar got 10 carries and, between he and Bush, they tore chunks out of the Raiders as they combined for 237 yards rushing.
Reggie Bush drew some attention during the offseason when he set himself the goal to be the NFL’s rushing leader, a goal that many people didn’t take seriously. Well, they may want to start taking him seriously now. After Week 2 Bush had amassed 241 rushing yards and currently sits at second on the Rushing Leader Board. The man in front of him is C.J. Spiller (292 yards), who just so happened to have ripped 169 yards off his total when playing against the Jets in Week 1.

Dolphins @ Jets Tickets!!

Friday, August 3rd, 2012

Hey DolfansNYC!

We hope everyone is having a great summer! Hard to believe that football season is only 5 weeks away. Can’t wait for it all to start again and for everyone to get together at Third and Long!

We have GREAT news — as you know, every year we organize a large group of Phins fans to invade the Meadowlands to see Miami take on the Jets. And every year we do our very best to get everyone sitting together, at least in neighboring sections.

This year will be our best effort to date as we’ve been in touch with the Met Life Stadium Ticket Office and they have FOUR back-to-back rows (all seats in all 4 rows TOGETHER) available for us if we want them!! The game is at 1:00pm on Sunday, October 28th.

That’s a possible 111 Dolphins fans sitting ALL TOGETHER!

This is ONLY possible in one section of the stadium. All other group seats are more scattered, so we wouldn’t all be together.

The seats are in Section 323, Rows 16 – 19 (Click here for the stadium seating chart).

HERE’S THE DEAL AND WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU:

-The price of the tickets will be NO MORE THAN $75 per person. NO TAXES. NO FEES. $75. That’s it. (For the record, this is the LOWEST that DolfansNYC has ever paid for their group tix!)

-Please e-mail us ASAP at DolfansNYC@gmail.com and tell us if you are interested in attending the game as part of our group. I HAVE TO CONFIRM WITH THE TICKET OFFICE IMMEDIATELY SO THEY HOLD THE SEATS.

-Please ONLY respond if you are sure you can be there and if you are able to get the money to us within the next week.

-In order to reserve the seats we have to put down a deposit and I can’t put that all on my credit card. :)

In addition to attending the game, we are definitely looking into the cost of organizing a bus to take us to and from the stadium so we can travel together and tailgate. More details (times, costs, etc) on that to come later.

Right now we really just need to know who is in for this group of tix so we can reserve them before we lose them. Please e-mail us at DolfansNYC@gmail.com and let us know how many tix you want.

Thanks everyone!!!
-Michelle & Igor
