The season is coming to an end and Dolfans NYC has a bunch of merch and raffle prizes still left over. We decided we want to get rid of a bunch of stuff so that we don’t have store it during the off season. We figured a perfect solution would be the first annual Dolfans NYC yard sale!
This is a perfect chance to get some last minute Christmas gifts for friends, family or yourself. We have a ton of old logo Dolphins stuff, random small items and some rare stuff like a Dolphins drink set that was given to VIPs by the Dolphins for Christmas a few years ago. We also will be selling our standard Dolfans NYC gear but you will save $5 per $40’s you spend. So come to Slattery’s for the Vikings game and bring cash!
We will be making donations to Toys 4 Tots, Ride DCC and several other charities this holiday season so help us make one final fundraising push!
Speaking of fundraising, we donated $1000 to the Go Fund Me for Jamie Quadrozzi the Dolphins manager of promotions and brand impact. She helped throw the Dolphins fan club weekend and has been a long supporter of Dolfans NYC. She was injured badly in a car accident and if you can find it in you to donate some money this holiday season you should! Get better Jamie!
Lastly, our #MetLifeTakeover wrap up video is behind schedule but should be here soon! Be on the look out and in the mean time check out Solo D’s new video which features footage from our takeover pre-party. Anyway, I will see you guys Sunday at Slattery’s. Phins up!
The Ice Bucket Challenge to raise awareness for ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) has blown up on the internet and has a great job putting eyes on the terrible neurological disease. Unfortunately at some point people stopped even talking about the disease in their videos or encouraging people to donate money to help find a cure. It’s become shameless self promoting for celebrities and people who want to be celebrities.
Both Michelle and I have been challenged by friends so we wanted to do something for ALS but we didn’t want to just do another video. Dolfans NYC has always been about raising money for good causes so instead of getting soaked in cold water we will be donating $200 to ALS Association and we are asking you guys to take some time to read about ALS and maybe make your own donation.
In the spirit of the Ice Bucket Challenge I quickly made an “Ice Water Challenge” video and am calling out our friends at Phin Phanatic, The DC/NOVA Dolfans and the NorCal Dolfans. We are asking them to try and match our donation and maybe do their own video to help spread awareness. And yes, you guys can dump ice on your head if you really want!
It’s that time of year again! The NFL Draft! Dolfans NYC makes a yearly trip to the draft that has grown every year. It’s a really fun event that is a fantastic way to talk football again. It has become one of the highlights of the Dolfans NYC calendar!
The NFL Draft takes place at Radio City Music Hall which is pretty much walkable from our bar Slattery’s Midtown Pub and we love to make a lot of noise and talk smack to all the other fans of other teams. Especially the Jets! We need to come out in force again!
Tickets to the draft are totally free but you do have to wait in line but the cool thing is waiting in line is one of the most fun parts of the draft. You just hang out with football fans all day and smack talk and have a good time. I honestly think I love it more than the actual draft!
Important to note. This year Michelle has a new baby and is going to be in Miami during the draft. I am going to be in a wedding this week/weekend and don’t have any time to spend as much time answering questions and responding to emails. So follow instructions carefully and you will get to watch the draft with us.
THE DAY BEOFRE THE DRAFT – Wednesday May 7th: On Wednesday we will be waiting in line to get wrist bands to get tickets the draft. The NFL starts giving out wrist bands at 7pm. We will be meeting at the fountain on Avenue Of Americas between 49th and 50th street at 5pm! We will be heading to get in line RIGHT AT 5pm! DO NOT BE LATE!
If you see everyone already in line DON’T PANIC. They give out tons of wrist bands on Wednesday night so as long as we get in line we will get into the draft. Even if the line seems impossibly long, don’t stress, you will get a wrist band. Also, if you can’t make it by five, just get in line and get a wristband. As long as we are together on Thursday we will get to sit together.
Wear your Dolphins gear both nights! We need to represent! And make sure you go to the bathroom and or bring food. You can’t leave the line once you get in it!
Round 1 – Thursday May 8th : This is the important part. Once you have a wristband they assign tickets by group in a random order. This means that as long as we are together in line we will get to sit together. Last year we had to do two different groups but we traded seats out and figured it out. But the important thing is that we are together. You are guaranteed a seat with a wrist band so once again DON’T WORRY ABOUT THE LINE!
We will be meeting at the same fountain on Ave of the Americas (6th Ave) between 49th and 50th again at 5pm. DO NOT BE LATE! This is important! We need to all be together when we get in line so that we can sit together! If you show up late try and find us in line but you probably won’t be able to join us.
Day 2 & 3: If you want to go to any of the other rounds of the draft it’s pretty easy. We aren’t doing a big get together but after the draft on Thursday you can get in line to get a ticket for Day 2. Day 3 is even easier. They are pretty much begging people to go so you just walk up on Saturday and you will probably even get a great seat.
Now check out this video from our draft trip last year and Go Dolphins!!
Ps. #MetLifeTakeover 2014 info coming soon! We can’t do much until tickets go on sale, but trust us, we are on top of it!
So things have not gone so well since I last updated. We lost back to back games including one to our hated rivals the Jets and one where I drove 8 hours to Buffalo to watch us get killed in freezing rain… at least I had great seats. We also had this great video from the #MetlifeTakeover but it wasn’t edited and ready to go until after the season was already over. Since then there has been a disastrous GM search and a Super Bowl in our city that I can’t even pretend to get excited about.
That being said, 2013 was a truly great year for Dolfans NYC. We found a new and improved home at Slattery’s Midtown Pub, raised thousands of dollars for various charities, threw the biggest away fan takeover in MetLife Stadium history and grew Dolfans NYC into a serious force in Dolphins fandom. The Dolphins new CEO even invited Michelle and I to watch a game in his box at SunLife. On top of that we really have created a family and even in horrible losses it’s been amazing to be around so many awesome Dolphins fans. There’s no place I would rather be than Slattery’s on Sunday and it makes the wins so much better and the losses sting a lot less.
This year we donated $3000 to the Miami Dolphins Foundation, sponsored two riders in the Dolphins Cycling Challenge, donated several hundred dollars to a breast cancer charity in October and made Christmas a lot better for two Dolphins fans who were injured in the Metro North train crash on the way to the #MetlifeTakeover. We also have raised a significant amount of money that’s sitting in the bank for next year. This money will be used to make more t-shirts, buy more prizes for our fund raising raffles and to make future charitable donations. This fundraising we do is truly the best thing about this for us. It means so much to be able to do something positive and have all this fun at the same time.
Michelle and I (and our many volunteers!) spend so much time on Dolfans NYC and people constantly thank us for all our work… but the truth is, we don’t need to be thanked. All this work is selfish. We do this because we want to have the best experience possible when watching Dolphins games and being able to watch every Sunday with 200+ passionate Dolphins fans or go to the Jets game with 760 of you guys is worth all the time and energy. So in reality I want to thank you guys for coming out and supporting what we do at Dolfans NYC!
Anyway, the Super Bowl is in NYC and I haven’t even checked out any of the events going on. So many Miami people are in town and I haven’t even gone down to Super Bowl Row. I feel like we should be doing more but Michelle is about to have a human child pop out of her and I am busy with work BUT, I just wanted to let everyone know that Slattery’s is going to be doing a big event for the Super Bowl.
Slattery’s is doing a $75 top shelf open bar with free appetizers upstairs but it’s only $50 if you are wearing Dolphins colors! You can also watch the big game downstairs without having to pay for the open bar. Just pay as you go. I would love to watch the game with a bunch of Dolphins fans so let us know over on our Facebook page if you want to attend. Thanks!
Lastly, I wanted to finally get up our #Metlifetakeover video. This thing is so cool and I posted it on Facebook and Twitter but I never posted it on our actual page. I hope you guys get a chance to watch it because I really love this video. Thanks to Alex Bente and his crew for filming and editing this! Also thanks again to Sailor Jerry and PBR for sponsoring our tailgate.
This is it! It’s finally here! Jets week! All the ups and (mostly) downs of this insane season no longer matter. All that matters is partying with 760 Dolphins fans! That’s right, we bought 760 tickets to the Jets/ Dolphins game (All in sections 323 and 322!) and we are going to ruin some Jets fans whole week. Last year the Dolphins crushed them and you could hear us loud and clear on TV in the 4th quarter and we only had 200 tickets then. Imagine what we will sound like with nearly 4 times as many. Between the game and the tailgate, this is going to be a party. For those of you going with us you got most of this in your emails from us, but here is a run down of all the important information!
If you can’t find someone in our group to do business with, Stub Hub and NFL Ticket exchange have a bunch of seats left in section 322. We have hundreds of tickets in that section so you will not be out numbered. The tickets are pretty expensive though so try our Facebook page first.
We will be throwing the most massive tailgate you have ever seen in Lot L. If you want to park near us you need a YELLOW parking pass. Our four busses will roll up at 9:15am and we will be there until noon. We sold out of passes to our tailgate so if you don’t have one you can’t eat our food BUT tons of people will be tailgating around us so just BYOB/BYOF and I am 100% sure that someone will grill your food up for you. If you haven’t done one of these before everyone is super friendly!
We bought 750 orange rally towels, so if you are sitting in 323 or 322 come and get one from us at the tailgate. They are totally free. Our thanks for joining up with us. That being said we raise a lot of money for charity so if you guys want to donate a couple bucks we won’t turn it down.
Speaking of raising money for charity, we will have Dolfans NYC shirts, hats and (a few) beanies for sale at the tailgate. Shirts are $20 and hats/beanies are $25 but you can get a shirt and a hat/beanie for $40. Cash only. All the money goes into the Dolfans NYC fund of which 100% goes to Dolfans NYC activities and charity. We have donated nearly $10,000 to charity since the last #MetLifeTakeover. Thanks!
We want to make a LOT of noise at the game. If you haven’t been to our bar before (Slattery’s Midtown Pub) I lead everyone in singing the fight song, signaling first down and always J E T S SUCK SUCK SUCK chants. I am in the middle of section but 323 right next to 322. So look for me and let’s get our yelling organized! I want to hear us on TV and ruin all the Jets fans day. This is a great way to get some POSITIVE attention for the Dolphins for once.
The name of this event is “#MetLifeTakeover”. That hashtag blew up organically last year and I want to get that going again. Maybe we can get it trending locally at least. So if you Tweet or Instagram from the event please use that hashtag. Also please @ us. We are @DolfansNYC on both Twitter & Instagram.
Lastly, if you haven’t been to an NFL game this year don’t for get about the NFL’s moronic clear bag policy. You can only bring in clear bags under 12″x 12″ in size. They recommend a 1 gallon freezer bag or of course you can buy a Dolphins branded bag too. Amazon has a bunch. We will have some extra freezer bags at the game incase anyone forgets.
So I think that’s it! Here is a video we shot last year at the tailgate. Imagine this times four! Alex Bente and crew will be back at our tailgate again so look for him and his video crew! Phins up!
In the less than 24 hours since my last post full of Dolfans NYC draft takeover photos we posted our draft video on YouTube. Since then it’s been all over Twitter and this afternoon the Finsiders blogged about it. It hasn’t quite gone viral or anything but I have heard a lot of positive feedback from it, especially from the Dolphins organization.
The video was put together by Alex Bente who did our #MetLifeTakeover video as well. He is actually a Ravens fan but he is a good friend of Michelle’s and does a great job with these videos so I guess we have to keep him around despite his purple allegiance.
Anyway, enough talk. Watch the video and share it with everyone. Let them know how Dolphins fans run New York!
Let’s go back to a simpler time where everything was right in Dolphins land. Where our Phins were up and we had won every game in October. It was a time before hurricane Sandy and before the Dolphins lost three games in a row. Let’s go back to our massive tailgate at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey where we brought hundreds of Dolphins fans together for the most fun you could possibly imagine as a Dolphins fan without them winning the Super Bowl. The tailgate was a blast, the Steve Ross showed up with Mike Dee, Fergie and Nat Moore and then the Dolphins absolutely demolished the Jets leaving hundreds of Dolfans NYC members chanting in the endzone. You could hear us on TV and Mike Dee and Reggie Bush tweeted about how we helped them win the game. It was incredible.
Well ignore everything that has happened since then and check out this video from the tailgate hosted and edited by one of Michelle’s co-workers at Showtime, Alex Bente. It’s a great video and I think you should watch it all the way to the end. There are some surprises. Enjoy the video and let’s hope things get better before the end of the year. I can’t take much more of this! Go Dolphins!
It’s been a wild week for NYC Dolphins fans. Last Sunday we were as high as we could be, wiping the Jets out and dancing in their home stadium. Then 24 hours later our city had been so badly damaged that it’s going to be years before we can fully recover. And then of course there was the Colts loss as icing on the cake. But we are New Yorkers and we are not going to let this mess us up! So many of our members and friends have had their places damaged or destroyed, people are without work and power.
Dolfans NYC has been committed to raising money for charity from day one and I can’t think of a better time than now to give. Last night I set up a fundraiser to try to raise money for the Greater New York Red Cross. I put a $1000 target goal, but hoped to eventually raise even more. In less than 24 hours we have already raised more than half of that and donations keep coming in. It just shows you how awesome this community, and the larger Dolphins community is.
So check out this video I recorded at Third & Long during the Colts game on Sunday. We talk to some of the members of our club that have been impacted by the storm. These guys are the lucky ones but still have had some terrible stuff happen since the storm hit. And after you watch the movie check out our fundraiser page and make a donation. You can get some cool prizes including Dolfans NYC shirts which we are making available for the first time outside of Third & Long.
So keep the donations coming. You guys are inspiring. I hope you are all safe out there. Go Dolphins!
Everybody all over the Miami Dolphins world is talking about Dolfans NYC this week. As many of you know we bought 199 tickets to the Jets Dolphins game on the 28th as a group and then TONS more of our members bought tickets in sections 323 and 322. Those sections might be in the nosebleeds but they will be bleeding Aqua and Orange. All our tickets are gone and the two buses we are taking to the stadium are completely full but it’s not too late to hang out with us at Met Life Stadium.
If you DON’T have tickets: Try NFL Ticket Exchange or Stub Hub and try to get seats in 323 and 322. Our rows are in the high teens so if you an find anything in the middle of the section you will be surrounded by Phins fans.
If you DO have tickets and just want to tailgate with us we are rolling in two buses at 10AM and will be parking in the charter bus lot in Lot L. If you look at  this map we will be in the little blue rectangle in lot L. We have several members that are going to get there the second the gates open and hold a spot down. Our buddy from the Ohio Dolfans club will be bringing with him his 28 foot flag pole so you should be able to find us pretty easily.
If you are tailgating with us we sugest you bring your own food and drinks. We are providing food and drinks for the people who have already paid us and who are riding the bus with us and will probably have some stuff left over but we don’t want to run out so bring something! If you have a grill and tailgating stuff bring it! The 200+ Phins fans we are rolling with will appreciate it. We are going to have a few grils but the more stuff the better!
The fun stuff: We have a bunch of fun stuff going on at the tailgate aside from food, drinks and antagonizing Jets fans. We are going to be raffling a bunch of Dolphins autographs and other stuff at the tailgate. The Dolphins actually sent us some cool stuff to raffle plus we have a bunch of our own stuff. All the money raised will be donated to the Miami Dolphins Foundation and possibly a couple other charities. The raffle will be held at noon at the buses. We also will have Dolfans NYC t-shirts there as well with profits going to charity as well. We also are going to be video taping and photographing the event so don’t be surprised if you end up all over the Miami Dolphins fan sites. We are doing a huge group picture at 12:15pm so meet us there for it! Solo D will be joining us at the tailgate, so you might end up in a rap video as well…
More information:Â If you still have questions reach out to us at firstname.lastname@example.org or @doflansnyc on Twitter. You can also talk to us and more NYC Phins fans over on our Facebook page. We will be updating our Facebook and Twitter with our EXACT location as soon as we get to the Meadowlands so check one of them when you roll into the stadium gates.
So that’s all I have for you. It has been an honor to run Dolfans NYC and I know Michelle feels the same way. She has been busting her ass organizing all of this and we couldn’t be more excited. As you know we give all the money we make to charity because we do this for the love. And not just for the love of the Dolphins but for the love of the Dolphins fan. It’s been so amazing to meet so many people who love the Dolphins as passionately as we do and this Jets trip every year is the most fun thing we do. Win or lose (we are going to win of course) it’s amazing to be there with so many Phins fans and this is going to be our biggest crowd yet. I am going to leave you with two videos. The first is a video from our first Dolfans NYC tailgate with only 30 of us. Just imagine what 200 is going to look like. The second video is Solo D’s new song about the Phins/Jets game this week. He reps our bar Third & Long and shouts out Dolfans NYC. He came with us last year and knows how much fun it is to party with Dolfans NYC.
