Dolphins Come To New York…

Saturday, October 31st, 2009

It is that time of the year again when our beloved Dolphins travel to our home city to take on the hated Jests. DolFansNYC is bringing a group of thirty people to the game and we will be tailgating.  We don’t know where we will be yet, but if you email your phone number to dolfansnyc@gmail.com we will text you when we get to the Meadowlands and get set up.  We will also be posting a message on the Facebook group and be updating our Twitter with tailgate info. For those of you not coming to the game I have a feeling Third and Long will still be packed.  You might not have me yelling like a lunatic all day but I am sure someone will pick up the slack. Meanwhile, I will be getting throw out of Giants Stadium for kicking a Jets fan down a flight of stairs for using Chad Henne’s name in vain.

Anyway, since it is Jets week coming up, and we are all excited to run the Wild Cat up their asses, this is a perfect time to post my friend Dan Baxter’s video he made of us going nuts when Ronnie Brown took it into the end zone against the Jets during the last MNF game. I posted this in the Facebook group but haven’t posted it on the site yet.  The sound is a bit messed up, but I think you will enjoy it anyway. And remember, as always, J-E-T-S Suck Suck Suck!

What’s Your Fantasy: Week 8

Friday, October 30th, 2009

Once again I break down some of the fantasy winners and losers with my predictions for the upcoming week. In this video you’ll also find an apology for one bad pick from last week, which was thankfully offset by at least 5 good ones. Several surprises throughout the video include photos, music, humor and an attempt by DolfansNYC to sell its soul to a corporate sponsorship. Enjoy and Go Fins!!!

DC Does It Right!

Thursday, October 29th, 2009

So this past weekend I found myself in the DC/Arlington area, visiting a friend of mine. I knew I wouldn’t be back in NYC in time for the Phins vs Saints game, so I went online and did a search to see if there was a DC equivalent to DolfansNYC, and I was psyched to find out that there was! Not only do they have a group of fans that get together for the games, they are an official fan club, fully recognized by the bar, who reserves the top floor just for the Phins fans! They have decorations on the walls and also conduct raffles. They even have their own “Igor” who is the designated first-down shouter for “That’s another Miami Dolphins…..” And, of course, they play the fight song after each touchdown. It really felt like a home away from home. The people were cool, the atmosphere was fun and the bar (Hard Times Café in Clarendon) was awesome. (They are famous for their chili.)

I met the president of their club, Zach, and we’ll be linking to his site and he’ll link to ours. NYC and DC are so close to each other and a lot of our members and theirs may find themselves looking for places to watch the games when they are visiting the other city. Look no further guys. And welcome to anyone from the DC/Arlington fan club that would like to stop in and enjoy a game with DolfansNYC!
Check out their website here and check out a little bit of video I shot below to give you a feel for the place.

The Faces Of DolfansNYC

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009
We’re introducing a new feature to the website, which will give you an opportunity to meet some of the people who come out to Third and Long to cheer on the Miami Dolphins. We’ve got an amazing group of people who gather every week to watch football and add to the atmosphere of the bar. If you haven’t joined us for a game, be sure to put it in your calendar. As you can see from our videos, the energy is high, the people kick ass and it’s always a good time here in NYC!
Stay tuned every week as we feature more of the faces of DolfansNYC.
Go Dolphins!

Moving Forward…

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

Wednesdays are usually when I can start dealing with life after a Dolphins loss.  This one stung extra badly and every time I am reminded of football I get flashbacks to Drew Brees dismantling the Dolphins after the 28 best minutes of football the Dolphins have played in a decade. Can we get over this? Personally, I probably will be able to sleep 8 hours without having a nightmare involving a wide open Ted Ginn dropping a pass one day, but I am not sure the Dolphins can get back into the hunt.  They are now dead last in the AFC East with two tough division games.  If we can manage to win the next two games, things soften up quite a bit and we will be 4-0 in the division.  If we lose one of the next two, it is pretty much game over as far as 2009 goes. I still have hope.

I took a lot of photos before half time of the Saints game and you can check them out below.  People were in a joyous mood as we sang the Dolphins fight song until our throats hurt.  I want to look at these photos and pretend the thirty minutes that followed them never happened. If you click the slideshow below it will take you to Flickr where you can download the pictures for your Facebooks or Friendsters or whatever the kids are doing these days.

All The Way Live!

Sunday, October 25th, 2009

We actually managed to get the site up before the Saints game! That was my goal and I didn’t think we would make it.  Well, clearly I was wrong. The site is going to be tweaked over the rest of the season probably starting, but it is ready to go now.  I hours this weekend getting all the updates from our temporary site moved over, adding all the pictures and getting some new video posted.  I hope you like it.

We are going to be doing a lot more video and want to include everyone who comes out to Third & Long every week.  Talk to me at a game, lets get you guys involved in the site in some way or another. This thing is about Dolphins fans stuck in the heart of Jets country trying to have a place to talk Dolphins and watch the games in a great environment, not about Michelle and I starting a blog. So, please, send in pictures, video blogs, writing, anything, we want this page to be yours.

Only 4 and a half hours to kick off against the Saints.  Let the Wildcat roar and make Drew Brees look like Drew Henson.  Go Dolphins!

Next Up: The Aints

Saturday, October 24th, 2009

Huge game this week against the Saints.  We are up against probably the best team in the NFL right now.  If we can take this game we will be back to  .500 and serious contenders.  If we lose, we go into two huge divisional games 2 games back.  I can’t wait.
Third & Long should be packed for this game and I hope most of you can make it out. And remember its the 4:15 game so you have all day to get mentally prepared.

I wanted to give you guys and update on our website.  I was hoping it was going to be ready to launch today, but it’s not quite there.  I think it will be up in the next 48 hours though for sure. I will send out another message then.  We are looking for contributors to the site, so if you have any ideas let  me know

I also wanted to mention two events we have coming up:

Next weekend is the Dolphins/Jets game in the Meadowlands.  We have purchased 30 tickets as a group and I know a lot of other people are going.  We are planning at tailgate so we will let you know as soon as we find out where we are going to be.  That should be crazy.

The weekend after that is the first Patriots game and we are going to be doing a DolfansNYC fundraiser.  We have had some expenses and plan on having some more over the rest of the season so we are trying to raise $250 to pay for this stuff. We are going to do a tailgate at Third and Long with food and raffles and some other surprises. There will be a $10 suggested donation for food and $1 raffle tickets for Dolphins stuff. Any money raised over $250 will be donated to Third and Long’s charity The I Will Foundation.

Okay, so thats that.  I hope to see you all out tomorrow and as always, Go Dolphins!

What’s Your Fantasy: Week 7

Friday, October 23rd, 2009

I’ve been a fantasy football fanatic since winning my first title in 1999, when I took a flyer on an unknown player named Kurt Warner. In “What’s Your Fantasy?” I’ll deliver my weekly predictions and thoughts on who to put in your starting lineup, keep on your bench, and think about if you’re in a bind.

This week, I advise against being “cute” and benching star players facing tough matchups, and tackle a question from a frustrated owner of Carolina’s Steve Smith.

Channing’s Mom Will Teach Your Mom

Friday, October 23rd, 2009

If you have female friends or family in South Florida right now this post is for you…

I received an e-mail from fellow female Dolfan, Pauline Crowder (mother of the Dolphins’ own Channing Crowder). She has been dedicating her time to educating women on the game of football and helping them to understand and appreciate this awesome game! It’s always great to see the women out there supporting football and especially the Dolphins! I wanted to share Pauline’s e-mail with you and also let you know about some upcoming events that she is hosting and how you can participate. Thank you Pauline!

We have weekly seminars at Bokampers Sports Bar in Plantation at 7:00 p.m. right before Monday Night Football
We are also holding a seminar at the Bank Atlantic Service Center on Cypress Creek this Tuesday, October 27th at 6:00 p.m. The seminars usually last about an hour and a half. Joey Haynos Shout Out

Thursday, October 22nd, 2009

Michelle had a chance to go to a golf tournament that Anthony Fasano threw in New Jersey and she ran into our battering ram of a tight end Joey Haynos. Joey might not catch a lot of balls, but it is no coincidence that our rush offense has vastly improved since Haynos and Lou Polite joined the team. One thing you might not know, but should, is that Joey’s aunt and uncle live in New York and have made several appearances at Third & Long for DolfansNYC events. Say hi to them next time…

So please, check out this video of Joey thanking all of you guys for supporting the Dolphins deep in Jets country.  And I don’t want to give any spoilers or anything… but we may have some more video surprises coming soon…
